The Public
Housing program is comprised of 1,675
units managed by the Housing
Authority. These units were developed with Department
of Housing and Urban (HUD) funding and
continue to receive an operating subsidy
from HUD.
At present, the Housing Authority manages
a portfolio located
in 23 cities and communities.
Residents
in the Public Housing program are required
to pay rent based on 30% of their adjusted
gross income. The difference between
the resident portion of the rent and the
cost of maintaining the unit is substantially
paid by HUD in the form of an operating
subsidy. The Public Housing program
provides vital assistance for many low
income families and seniors, aggressively
addressing the need for affordable housing
in the county of San Bernardino.
